I really enjoyed this collection of poems. They are comforting and calming, and best enjoyed during a relaxing late night read, or outdoors while listening to birds chirping.
Oliver’s style is introspective and draws heavily from her lived experiences and the natural world. Many of her pieces take root (pun intended) in the simple and mundane. I particularly like her work because she:
- 🍁 Never seems to complain or talk ill of anything
- 🏵 Masterfully connects the finitude of life to the cycle of growth and decay in nature. And like the changing seasons, we too experience great periods of change
- 🌲 Finds beauty in the simplest of things (a rising sunset, a crow, a snow covered tree)
- 🏡 Provides lots of good insight into life, the meaning of life, goals and aspirations, being human
Here is a list of poems that resonated with me:
- When Death Comes
- The Journey
- Magellan
- The House
